Local pregnancy resource center taking shape
A woman thinks she is pregnant. She's scared, confused and not sure what to do next. Where does she go? The Pregnancy Resource Center of Mountain Home hopes to meet that need.
Sabrena Klausman said the idea for a pregnancy resouce center came to her three years ago.
"I was taking a class taught by my pastor on how to talk to children about sex," she said. "We began talking about the epidemic of pregnancies in our schools here."
The aim of the pregnancy resource center is to help people who are hurting or are in a crisis situation. Not just teenagers, but young mothers -- people who don't know where to turn. The center intends to run a hotline, a thrift store, and open a counseling center. A building has been acquired and is being renovated. A new director has been hired for when the center opens.
Once the center opens, it intends to have classes on a variety of subjects -- post-miscarriage, parenting classes, etc.. The goal is to educate women and let them know they have more options. The center wants to save the life of the unborn child while meeting the needs of the mother. Each woman who contacts the group will be given a free pregnancy test, after which she will receive information on conception, pregnancy and medical care.
